Mary's Story

Life Updated April 2013 What a joyous event, a new grandson born to my daughter and her husband, April 9, 2013. I almost forgot what fun it is to have a new baby around since my youngest granddaughter is 18 and a freshman in Nursing School. We are taking the baby to Sturgis MC Rally in August. His Daddy will be riding and his Mommy and I will fly. Neither my daughter or I have flown with a 4 month baby so that should be quite an adventure in itself. Going to Sturgis is on my bucket list, so I am excited to go. Being retired is great. Life Revised/2012 Life marches on so we need to undate our stories. This is an update from 2010 through 2012. Big year for those of us who graduated in 1962. Can you believe it has been 50 years? I will be attending my class reunion for Paradise Valley High School (Phoenix, AZ) in September. I am sure looking forward to seeing as many as can make it to this celebration. Personally I don't feel mentally old enough but my body doesn't always agree and that is another story... My granddaughter is indeed going into health care. She has been accepted into Arizona State University School of Nursing which starts August 20. We are so excited for her. My grandson has been accepted into the Graduate Program in Math at Northern Arizona University and he will also be a Teaching Assistant in the Math Department. His try for the Air Force didn't work out, he waited 9 months to find out he didn't get accepted into Officer's School. It was disappointing for him but sometimes life isn't easy. But gosh, I am really proud of my grandkids! My daughter and her husband will leave this week (August 1, 2012) for Sturgis 2012 Motorcycle Rally. He is a motorcycle builder and been in the industry for quite some time (Paul Yaffe Originals & Bagger Nation) and she works for AZ Bike Week so they go every year. The booth will be at the Full Throttle Saloon, so if you go to Sturgis look them up and tell them I sent you. I still volunteer for my daughter and AZ Bike Week which will be in March 2013 at West World in Scottsdale, AZ. I get together with some of my nursing school friends about every 2 years. t together in Branson, MO in 2013. We have been to Phoenix, AZ, Glacier National Park, MT and the Oregon Coast so far. We have a great time where ever we go. We try to visit an area close to where someone lives so they can make recommendations about the sites we should see. Staying connected is what it is all about. I lived in Zionsville, IN and also in Brownsburg, IN. My graduation year was 1962, but not from an IN High School. My family moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1960 and I graduated from Paradise Valley High School in AZ. I went to nursing school at St.Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Phoenix and graduated from there in 1965. In Feb. of 2010, I retired after 45 years of working as a Registered Nurse. I worked as an office nurse for 15 years and then did Operating Room nursing for the next 30 years. My husband passed away in September 2008. What a shock after forty years of marriage. I am learning many new things that he typically took care of. We raised our grandson who graduated from Northern Arizona University in May 2011. He has a Bachelors in Applied Math and at this time is hoping to enter the Air Force as an Officer. I have a granddaughter who is a senior at Arcadia High School in Phoenix. She is a good student and is thinking about a career in a health care related profession. My daughter and son-in-law are very active in the motorcycle industry. I volunteer for my daughter during AZ Bike Week the last week in March. It is something totally different for me and I enjoy meeting new people and seeing old freinds. I even answered the phones in my son in law's motorcycle shop while he was at Daytona Bike Week one year. I have a spoiled cat. I enjoy reading, sewing, jewelry making and watching movies. I also meet a lot of nurse friends for lunch. I enjoy traveling to New Mexico to visit my sister and to Pine, AZ to relax at the cabin. My sister and I are hoping to go on a cruise to Alaska in the future. Thanks for reading my profile.
